Melbourne Arts Precinct Corporation (MAP Co) (Organisation) is a state business corporation established by the Victorian Government under the State-Owned Enterprise Act 1992 and operating since July 2022. The Minister for Creative Industries is the relevant Minister for MAP Co, and the Treasurer is the sole shareholder.

MAP Co has responsibility for the operations, programming promotion and maintenance of Federation Square. MAP Co also oversees the delivery of the $1.7 billion Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation Project.

The Organisation will be issuing a tender for the provision of Design & Construct engagement at Federation Square as outlined below. The Ministerial Directions and Instructions for public construction prescribes the principals and procedures relating to Victorian public construction procurement including tendering and contracting procedures and mandatory practices for public construction. Public construction requirements and resources | dtf.vic.gov.au

Project Summary

Federation Square accommodates multiple food and restaurant tenancies which require onsite cold storage. The site is currently equipped with 10no. cool rooms and 10no. freezers located adjacent to the rear Loading Dock. The fridges, freezers and associated refrigeration equipment are approximately 20 years old and are at the end of their economic service life.

The project objective is to replace the end of service life equipment, including:

• Provision of new cool room panelling with the intended layout to comprise of one large cool room.
• Provision of new freezer panelling with the intended layout to comprise of 10no. individual freezer compartments as per the current arrangement.
• Provision of new refrigeration equipment including dual compressor systems, evaporators and air-cooled condensers. 
• Provision of new lightweight chainwire mesh fencing (or equivalent demountable screening) for installation within the new cool room to separate tenant store areas. The intent is to provide a layout with as much flexibility as possible to be able to adapt to changing tenant requirements in the future.
• Provision of a new external and secure plant platform for mounting of the new air-cooled refrigerant condensers.
• Removal of redundant panelling and refrigeration equipment including decommissioning and removal of the existing water-cooled refrigerant condensers.
