Description
Teacher Professional Leave (TPL) commenced in 2004 as a key professional learning strategy to build the capacity and skills of teachers. The initiative has provided teachers with flexible opportunities to enhance their classroom practice in order to contribute to school and system improvement. TPL was designed to enable teachers to: identify a problem/question/area of interest; investigate ways of addressing that issue; evaluate what has been learnt; and act upon the implications of that professional learning.
The Professional Leave and Teacher Outcomes (PLATO) program commenced in November 2007. This statewide support program for selected participants was a direct response to the external evaluation of TPL which found that while this initiative was an important investment in building the capacity and skills of teachers, the value of the initiative was not being maximized in terms of professional learning for individual participants and sharing of that learning within the school and across the system.
