ESSSuper, the registered business name of the Emergency Services Superannuation Board (ABN 28 161 296 741) is responsible for the management and administration of the Emergency Services Superannuation Scheme (“the Scheme”).  The Scheme is governed by the Emergency Services Superannuation Act 1986 (Vic) (the Act). ESSSuper’s objectives, duties, functions and powers are set out in sections 6 and 6A of the Act.

The Emergency Services Superannuation Scheme provides benefits for current and former Victorian emergency services employees and their spouses, as well as public sector employees.  Total funds under management (FUM) of ESSSuper exceed $27 billion with approximately 150,000 members in the fund. The Accumulation fund totaled $5Bn of this FUM.

The internal audit function at ESSSuper is, first and foremost, intended to give the Board, Governance, Risk & Compliance Committee (GRC) and Management assurance that ESSSuper possesses an adequate system of risk management, internal controls and procedures. The internal audit function should not, however, simply be a compliance check of controls and processes. The internal audit team should have, or achieve, an understanding of the business and the operations of ESSSuper. It is the intention of ESSSuper that the successful tenderer will partner and assist ESSSuper in the goal of building a fund our members and stakeholders can be proud of, including a suite of new products and services.
