The refurbishment Of the MRI/CT centre is to be completed over 2019/2020 over a period of ten months in three different stages. The Works area is located in the main hospital utilising space made available from the relocation of the Emergency Department. The hospital will be required to remain operational for staff and patients throughout construction.

Stage 1 works package includes construction of the following areas:

• A new CT machine suite adjacent to the Adult Assessment Unit
• Staff base and waiting area with accessible wash closets
• Holding bays for Trolley beds and Cannulation chairs including Medical Imaging Reporting rooms

Stage 2a works package includes

• Internal refurbishment of the existing CT area to establish a new second MRI machine adjacent to the existing MRI, with associated Equipment and Control, Interview, Change, reporting and Trolley transfer rooms.

Stage 2b works package includes

• Functional improvements to the change room and access door to the current MRI room and Fire Engineering repatriation works to existing smoke and fire walls surrounds to satisfy the provisions of fire safety protection.

The scope of works will include Decommissioning through to Commissioning including testing to the relevant standards. The key deliverable of this project is the commissioning of a new MRI/CT area with associated equipment and control rooms, interview, change, reporting and trolley transfer rooms. Based on the complexity of the project it has been determined to appoint a single contractor to achieve the following objectives:

• Timely completion of works
• Ensure quality of works at each stage of the project
• Manage the effort and risk relating to engagement of multiple contractors
• Control project cost.
