Description

The New Melton Hospital is proposed to be built within a 2,200-hectare area containing the suburbs of Cobblebank, Strathtulloh and Weir Views. The suburbs together form a newly created Metropolitan Activity Centre (MAC) providing the community with excellent access to a range of major retail, community, government, entertainment, cultural and transport services.

Recently constructed, Cobblebank Railway Station is 250 metres from the proposed hospital site and will become the hub for an integrated public transportation network enabling access into the surrounding suburbs. Proximity to the station will provide opportunities for integrating the hospital into the town centre and pedestrianised network.

The Master Plan and Feasibility Study options to be investigated include the following, but are not limited to:

  • construction of new, purpose-built, facilities,
  • exploration of urban integration with town centre,
  • investigation of commercial opportunities in the hospital precinct.

The options must consider the entirety of the Western Growth Corridor, within which the hospital provides services, and will need to identify potential opportunities for co-development and/or co-location of compatible facilities.

The first deliverable is Master Plan Options for review, assessment and acceptance by DHHS through their agreed project governance.
