Description

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (the Authority) is an independent statutory body primarily responsible to the Victorian Minister for Education, serving both government and non-government schools.

The Authority provides high quality curriculum, assessment and reporting for all Victorian students in relation to their primary and secondary schooling by developing and implementing:

  • The Victorian Early Learning and Development Framework 0–8 (VELDF 0–8)
  • Foundation to Year 10 Curriculum (Victorian Curriculum F-10)
  • National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy Testing (NAPLAN)
  • Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)
  • Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL)
  • Vocational Education and Training (VET)

The Victorian Curriculum F-10 sets out what every student should learn during their first 11 years of schooling. The Victorian curriculum F-10: Mathematics provides students with access to important mathematical ideas, knowledge and skills that they will draw on in their personal and work lives. The curriculum also provides students, as life-long learners, with the basis on which further study and research in mathematics and applications in many other fields are built.

The Mathematics curriculum aims to ensure that students:

  • develop useful mathematical and numeracy skills for everyday life, work and as active and critical citizens in a technological world
  • see connections and apply mathematical concepts, skills and processes to pose and solve problems in mathematics and in other disciplines and contexts
  • acquire specialist knowledge and skills in mathematics that provide for further study in the discipline
  • appreciate mathematics as a discipline – its history, ideas, problems and applications, aesthetics and philosophy.

The Mathematics curriculum is organised by the three strands of Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability.

 Scope

The Authority requires a Supplier to develop new assessment items aligned to the Victorian Curriculum F-10: Mathematics. The assessment items will be developed according to Authority specifications on the Authority’s online digital assessment platform.
