Description

The GV Health Audiology service aims for early and accurate diagnosis of hearing loss and balance disorders in order to prevent adverse outcomes and ensure patient management is appropriate and optimal.
GV Health Audiology service is responsible for the early identification of hearing loss in children, with priority given to those infants referred by the Victorian Infant Hearing Screening Program (VIHSP), infants and children at risk of hearing loss and those referred as a result of Maternal and Child Health hearing screening.
GV Health Audiology offers a general Paediatric service for children to the age of 16 years inclusive. Testing involves tympanometry to evaluate middle ear status, visual reinforcement audiometry for younger children and play audiometry for older children. Pure tone audiometry can usually evaluate the degree and type of hearing loss. Bone conduction testing is performed where necessary.
GV Health Audiology provides;
 Surveillance assessments for children with identified hearing loss risk factors
 Support for children with multiple problems and complex audiological issues.
 Support for children undergoing chemotherapy.

 Support for children with significant developmental delays.
 Support for children with known medical conditions or syndromes associated with hearing loss e.g. Noonan’s syndrome, Trisomy 21.
 Suitability assessment for various middle ear and bone conduction implants.
 Pre-operative and post-operative assessment of children referred via Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery (otherwise known as ENT).
 Support for at risk Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
Referrals for general hearing assessment may be received from the following:
