Bass Coast Health is the major public healthcare provider in the Bass Coast Shire. Its main site comprises Wonthaggi Hospital; a regional hospital providing a 24-hour emergency department, acute, sub-acute, aged and ambulatory care services. It is also the only emergency department service provider within the Shires of Bass Coast and South Gippsland.

In May 2018, the State Government announced a capital funding allocation to upgrade Wonthaggi Hospital’s facilities in order to expand inpatient, theatre and ED services.

This Project has an estimated Total End Investment of $115M with funding from the 2018/19 State Government Budget to provide a new emergency department, 3 new operating theatres and new procedure room and a new 32 bed inpatient ward.
