Description
The Bacteriology Laboratory is part of The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) Laboratory Services that provides diagnostic pathology services to RCH, The Royal Women’s Hospital (RWH) and the wider community. Laboratory services provides paediatric and maternal testing to both RCH and RWH patients.
The Bacteriology Laboratory currently performs over 15,000 bacterial identification per annum by conventional methods and is seeking proposals from the open market to provide a MALDI-TOF instrument solution to replace most conventional bacterial and fungal identification methods. The use of MALDI-TOF technology significantly improved the time to identify bacteria and fungi and therefore has significant clinical benefit for the diagnosis of bacterial infectious diseases.
