Contract Details
The original hospital was opened on 18 September 2004, offering overnight patient accommodation, ambulatory care facilities, an emergency department, inpatient and community adult mental health facilities, as well as a range of support services including: Theatres and Central Sterilizing Services, Diagnostic Imaging, Pathology, Allied Health, Pharmacy, Education and Administration areas.
The initial hospital’s capacity of up to 30 000 patients and 25 000 emergency presentations each year has continued to grow leading to the addition of a Special Care Nursery in December 2010 and a 30 bed sub-acute unit in 2014.
The 25 years (post construction) contract with Plenary Health is to design, build, finance and provide a range of facility services for the hospital including building services, helpdesk, security, grounds, car parking, pest control, external cleaning and training.
The 2015-16 Victorian State Budget allocated $106.3 million for an expansion of Casey Hospital. In October 2016 the Government committed an additional $28.6 million to the expansion, bringing Government's total capital commitment to $134.9 million. The expansion will deliver 160 new beds, the hospital's first intensive care unit, six new operating theatres and a new day surgery unit.
Total Value of the Contract:
- $120 million (net present value, as at November 2002) - for the original Casey Hospital contracted for in 2002
- $167 million (net present value, as at September 2017) - for the expansion contracted for in 2017
