Saline Groundwater Seaweed Demonstration Site - Jeparit

Expressions of Interest (EOI) are sought from an experienced consultant to further develop a seaweed project which aims to enhance the integrated and innovative regional program focussed on living with salt options.

The Victorian Department of Primary Industries (DPI) set up the trial in May 2003, using saline groundwater pumped into ponds. The basis for the project is the rehabilitation of salt affected land and trialing some new industry opportunities to make these lands productive.

Experience in seaweed industry and particularly knowledge of species selection, changes to water quality and nutrient levels to ensure optimum growth, advise on the harvesting and marketing of seaweed will be essential.

The seaweed project will commence in July 2004 and be completed by the end of June 2005, with an indicative budget of $30,000 including GST. The trial is based in Jeparit, approximately 70km north of Horsham in Victoria.
