Description
North East Catchment Management Authority (The Principal) seeks tenders to design and construct of a vertical slot fishway on the Ovens River at the township of Bright in the State of Victoria.
The fishway will enable fish passage at the Bright Weir, removing a key barrier to fish movement, opening an additional 42km of the Ovens River and 120km of associated tributaries above Bright, leaving only one major barrier to fish passage remaining on the Ovens River between the River Murray and the Ovens River headwaters.
Tenderers are sought from suitably qualified and experienced companies to act in the capacity of Principal Contractor to manage and execute all facets of the project.
This Scope of Works (SOW):
The Principal Contractor must be capable of developing the Principals’ existing prescriptive Initial Design of a modular vertical slot fishway and complete the detailed design, construction, commissioning and verification stages of the project.
Important considerations:
Bright is a notable tourist location within north eastern Victoria. Key tourist periods see the population rise from a standing capita of circa 2600 to an estimated maximum of 10,000 during the peak tourist periods including snow season, Easter, Christmas and school holiday periods. The proposed construction site is located on and adjacent to the Ovens River within a heavily used public park area for walking, fishing, swimming, picnicking, playgrounds, with nearby caravan park, cafés, brewery, nearby CBD attractions and roads.
The final design of the fishway must be sympathetic to the visual waterfront public amenity. The structure, so far as is practical should seek to blend into the surrounding natural features.
In consideration of the site location and in the interests of public safety, the on-ground construction window should minimise encroachment upon peak tourist periods.
