Morwell Fire Station – Motor room rear doors  

Country Fire Authority (CFA) is intending to release an open tender for the supply and installation of  high speed automatic roller doors to the rear elevation of the Morwell Fire Station motor room.

The Morwell Fire station project is currently under construction however the end user has requested a change to the door specification that requires the procurement through an open tender process to capture the best available product to meet the end user performance requirements to the rear elevation of the motor room.

The new Fire Station will be constructed from a combination of steel frame structures, colorbond and brick veneer wall cladding, colorbond roof cladding and aluminum windows. The motor room that house the firefighting appliances is a 4-bay wide steel framed structure. Door sizes are nominally 4.3m High x 4 m wide.

The Doors are required to be manufactured and delivered to the Morwell site in Sept / October 2021.

It is intended that the successful door supply contractor will be novated to the building contractor

High Speed Roller Door Performance

The high speed door system should be based on a self-supporting design and modular construction, consisting of galvanized vertical steel frames, a spiral-shaped (or equivalent) door guidance head unit incorporating motor drive and transmission shaft, and a door blade of individual horizontal laths with various configurations as required.

The visible surface of the door blade is to have a minimum of 70% clear and transparent content with single walled clear acrylic glass

The door shall be operated by a suitable Controller installed in a separate switch cabinet with an IP67 rating. The controller must include a functional key pad along with diagnostic control indication.

Power requirements for the control panel are to be 415V 16A 3Ph with earth and neutral power supply is required. This system is to provide q soft start, and a soft stop capability. The control system is to have the capabilities to accept a wide variety of activation options; as well as terminations to control warning lights and/or traffic lights, plus inputs for remote detection of door functions. The door is to driven by a spur geared high frequency motor. The positions of the door are to be permanently detected by means of contactless sensory technology incorporated in the motor

Emergency (Manual) Operation Capability - The balancing of the door blade is to be according to the standard DIN EN 12604. The door blade is to be balanced via integrated rotating toothed belts connected to a correctly sized tension multi spring mechanism on both sides of the door. This ensures that the door has the capability of a simple manual emergency opening, e.g.: in the case of a power failure.
