Air-conditioning replacement program
Refrigerant R22 ('R22') is a hydrochlorofluorocarbon ('HCFC') refrigerant that has been widely used in air conditioning systems and components.
Artificial refrigerants including chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC) have long been identified for their ozone depletion potential (ODP) and global warming potential (GWP). In 1996 the internationally agreed Montreal Protocol established a schedule for the phase out of CFC's and HCFC's.
In view of the above, due to the age of the existing plant and rising cost of refrigerant, the air conditioning units using R22 on Chisholm campuses have been nominated for replacement.
Where workplace health and safety requirements indicate, the replacement units may also require a reverse cycle functionality.
Chisholm has allocated funding for the replacement of R22 units by 31 December 2020. This date is not flexible, and therefore workforce capacity is key to the engagement of a contractor.
Tenderers will be required to provide pricing on a campus by campus basis as Chisholm may elect to award works to more than one contractor in order to achieve the completion date for the works.
