The Victorian School Building Authority is intending to release a Request for Quotation in April 2020 for the UPSS (Underground Petroleum Storage System) removal from a portfolio of Victorian schools to prevent potential soil and groundwater contamination. The UPSS were historically installed at school sites to store and supply heating oil or diesel fuel for boilers. Since the introduction of a reticulated gas supply throughout Victoria, most of these systems are no longer in use.
The project will include investigation of the soil surrounding the UPSS and subsequent demolition of the UPSS tanks. The project will require ground scanning, excavation, soil and hazmat testing, removal and disposal of UPSS storage tanks, and the decommissioning of associated infrastructure.
